Hermione anxiously paced the length of the small room she and Ginny were sharing at 12 Grimmauld Place, chewing on the end of one strand of hair as she moved. A small group of order members had just left the new headquarters to get Harry out of his aunt and uncle's house and she was not going to be able to sit or relax until they were all safely back. She couldn't imagine what Harry had been through this summer, and so soon after everything that had happened in that graveyard...her heart ached for her best friend and yet she knew Harry wasn't going to want pity or comfort when he arrived. He was going to want answers.
"Would you stop that" Ron protested from his post by the window. "You're making me dizzy." Hermione let her hair fall back into the rest of the bushiness (although to be fair, much less bushy than four years ago), and spun to face Ron with an agitated expression. "You do realize that Harry is going to be really angry with us right? We specifically ignored all of his questions about you-know-who in his letters because of what Dumbledore said but"- "Hermione, relax." Her voice had been getting more high-pitched than usual and her words were starting to slur together, something that tended to happen when she was really nervous or guilty about something.
"Right. Relax. Ok." She took a few deep breaths. Midway through the third one, she heard noise drifing up the carpeted staircase from the direction of the kitchen. "They're back" she yelped, sprinting from the room without looking to see if Ron was following or not. She could worry about how angry Harry was going to be later.
Right now all she wanted to do confirm with her own two eyes that he was safe.
